Tomols to Trains explores how transportation played a role in Ventura County history. Visit the communities that struggled with the changes that new modes of transportation brought.
See how towns and cities changed, how suburbs grew and how our farms and other industries became part of regional, national, and international economies. Meet the people of Ventura County as they moved along these routes for work or leisure, and as they came to Ventura County to find new homes. Come along and join us on this journey through Ventura County’s past.
Some of the artifacts on view in this exhibit include:
- A Spanish breastplate from the late 1500’s
- A rag doll belonging to Emmaline Sisson brought by wagon train to Ventura County
- A Chinese Funerary Urn
- A souvenir ribbon from President Roosevelt’s visit in 1903
- A marine clock used on the Ventura Wharf
- A piece of asphalt
