Patriotic Threads explores how textiles have long served as powerful expressions of national identity. Through handcrafted works, the exhibit reveals how textiles and design embody patriotism and collective memory.
As the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Patriotic Threads brings together historical artifacts and contemporary artworks that reflect a range of perspectives, from celebration to critique.
From Centennial-era objects to works by artists connected to Ventura County, these pieces highlight how creative expression gives voice to shared experiences and emotions. The exhibit features thoughtfully selected textiles, including works by John Nava, Spanish American War–era relics, and US Centennial Exposition souvenirs.
By presenting textiles alongside fine art and craft, Patriotic Threads challenges traditional boundaries and invites visitors to reconsider how patriotism is expressed. These works reflect the enduring spirit of national identity and how it continues to evolve.
