Wearing Our Stories: Rising from the Ashes

The Museum of Ventura County will host its annual Wearable Art Fashion Show June 2 at the Museum’s Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Pavilion, 100 E Main Street, Ventura. “Wearing Our Stories: Rising from the Ashes” focuses on stitching together the stories of courage amid destruction and mending the devastation left behind by the Thomas Fire. The challenge for artists, artisans and community members is to tell their stories through an article of clothing or accessories designed for this wearable art show. A VIP pre-reception will be held at 6 p.m. for VIP ticket holders. General admission doors open at 6:45 and the fashion show begins at 7 p.m.

“What we wear tells the story of who we are— from the shoes on our feet, to the fabrics and colors we choose, to the adornment on our bodies. It can explain where we come from, what groups we belong to and how we view ourselves as individuals,” said Anna Bermudez, curator at the Museum. “As a community, we have suffered through a horrific ordeal, an experience that has taken so much from so many. The focus of this show is how we begin sifting through the ashes to find some treasure to mend our spirit and give us the strength to move forward and rebuild.”

General admission ticket prices are $45 for non-members, $40 for members; VIP tickets are $75 for non-members, $70 for members. VIP includes pre-reception with appetizers and one drink ticket. Tickets can be purchased at https://wearingourstories.eventbrite.com.
