Please join the Ventura Film Society for a special screening of “Black 47”.
The first film ever made about Ireland’s Potato Famine, the most impactful event in Irish history. 1847 was the worst year of the famine, which reached the scales of a holocaust with over a million Irish people starving to death and another million emigrating, mostly to America. The film accurately portrays the times and then gets you to the edge of your seat when a Rambo-like Irishman seeks revenge against the British for the death of his family.
Ventura has a strong tradition of celebrating all things Irish around Saint Patrick’s Day so this March the Ventura Film Society will be showing two important Irish films. Ventura Realtor and Irish enthusiast, John McNally, is sponsoring these films and will have flags, medals, and other collectibles and memorabilia from the era on display as well as introduce the films.
