“One County, One Book” Movie Night at MVC

Presented by the Ventura County Library.

The Ventura County Library is partnering with the Museum of Ventura County to present a special film screening as part of our One County, One Book program. The screening will take place on Tuesday, October 15, from 5-7 p.m. at the Museum of Ventura County. One County, One Book aims to unite the Ventura County community around a common narrative, spreading interest in and facilitating discussions about the selected book. This year’s selection, The Library Book by Susan Orlean, chronicles the 1986 Los Angeles Public Library fire and its aftermath to showcase the larger, crucial role that libraries play in our lives.

Our selected film was written and directed by Emilio Estevez, who also stars in the film. The story follows a Cincinnati librarian who helps a group of homeless people take refuge at the free public library in order to survive a brutal winter night. This act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police and offers a glimpse at one of the many ways the role of the public library has changed over the years. The film also stars Christian Slater, Jeffrey Wright, and Michael Kenneth Williams.

Seating for this event is on a first-come, first-served basis. RSVP does not guarantee seating. Please arrive early for parking purposes.

All library events associated with One County, One Book are free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Ron Solórzano, Regional Librarian, at (805) 218-9146.
