Lohuis works as a science communicator and naturalist for the Jean-Michele Cousteau Society, Island Packers, Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, and others. She is currently spearheading an effort to get the Santa Barbara Channel designated as a Whale Heritage Site.
Lohuis will discuss what she has learned about research on whales and their influence on the ecology of oceans and the Santa Barbara Channel. By increasing public awareness of the challenges facing the health of whale populations, Lohuis hopes to help enhance humans’ connection to and relationship with whales and their ocean home.
