The Fillmore Citrus Association Mexican Band was organized in the late teens or early 1920’s by Frank Erskine, who was the secretary and manager of the Fillmore Citrus Association. The band was comprised of packinghouse and field workers who had an interest in learning a musical instrument or had previous experience. The band was available for any occasion and many times traveled out of the area for parades or celebrations. Frank Erskine was musical director of the band and Manuel Lucero, who had studied music in Mexico, was conductor.

The motto of the band was “Money spent for music is a sound investment.”
