What: Opening today, November 11, 2021, The Museum of Ventura County welcomes guests to Arte Para la Gente: The Collected Works of Margaret Garcia, a retrospective exhibit exploring artist Margaret Garcia, and her works that take museum-goers on an encapsulating journey of culture, family, landscapes, and urban life.
For the past 40 years, Garcia has been an advocate and leader for marginalized members of society, through her leadership in the L.A. Chicano Art Movement and championing her community. Garcia has influenced and encouraged artists to challenge their talents and find their individuality through their work. Self-reflection and expressing one’s authentic self are recurring themes amongst Garcia’s artistic students. Many of Garcia’s recent pieces were painted in Ventura County and are on display for the first time.
