The 2018 Mayor’s Arts Awards will be held at the Museum of Ventura County on November 8 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Pavilion. The City of Ventura announced that Elena Brokaw, the Museum’s Barbara Barnard Smith Executive Director, is the recipient of the 2018 Mayor’s Arts Award for the category of Arts Leader. Brokaw will receive the award at the presentation on Nov. 8
Established in 2005, the Mayor’s Arts Awards recognize the contributions to the cultural community by city residents, artists, educators, organizations and business leaders. The category of Arts Leader is awarded to a nonprofit arts professional who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, organizational stewardship and partnership within the local arts community.
The Mayor’s Arts Awards recipients are selected by a panel of community members, including representatives from the arts, civic and business communities, and selection is based upon a set of criteria including the significance and magnitude of the nominee’s contributions to the citizens of Ventura, leadership in the arts community and service to the arts over a significant period of time, demonstration of having set a positive example, benefit and impact of the nominee’s contribution to the citizens of the City of Ventura and potential contribution to the arts (in the Emerging Artist category). The goal of this program is to help cultivate greater visibility and understanding of the value of the arts.
Refreshments and a no-host bar will be available.
