50th Anniversary Celebration: Monterey Pop International Festival Concert

Kick off the Summer of Love 50th Anniversary celebration, 7–9 p.m., June 17, with this special showing of the Monterrey Pop International Festival documentary directed by D.A. Pennebaker. Widely regarded as having kicked off the Summer of Love, it became known for hosting the first major American appearances by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Who and Ravi Shankar, as well as the first large-scale public performance of Janis Joplin and the introduction of Otis Redding. Bring your poncho and folding chair, and don’t forget to wear your bellbottoms. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. A no host bar is available. Part of the “Summer of Love” events at the Museum.
