The Oaks of Santa Paula with Mitch Stone

Join us at the Agriculture Museum on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a special talk with Mitch Stone. Admission is free for Museum members, $5 for nonmembers.

Mitch Stone’s book “The Oaks of Santa Paula, A History of Santa Paula Canyon and the Oaks Neighborhood” offers a detailed look at the intriguing history of this distinctive part of the city, set within the history of lower Santa Paula Canyon and the ancient California Live Oak trees that have defined its character for centuries. The story of the Oaks begins with the pioneering settlement of the canyon during the 1870s and the important role the canyon played in the establishment of the town. It continues through into 1920s, when the Oaks became the city’s first “suburb,” and home to some of the city’s most important buildings, artists, architects, and influential people.

Mitch Stone is a historian, author, and historic preservation consultant who has lived in Santa Paula for nearly 35 years. His limited-edition book the “Oaks of Santa Paula” was published in 2011.
