Community Story Circle: Hindsight is 2020

In partnership with CreativityWorks, the Museum of Ventura County invites you to join a Community Story Circle, where we will share our thoughts on the theme: Hindsight is 2020-What Kernel of Hope or A New Possibility for Our Community Do You Want to Build On?

Join us on Zoom on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 10:30 AM for an opportunity to connect with your community and share your hope for the new year. Feel free to bring a snack, cup of tea or coffee, to the event.

Registration is limited to the first 80 participants. To register, please email Friday Gretchen. Registered participants will receive a personalized Zoom Link 48 hours before the event.

A Community Story Circle is a place to share and listen, to honor and respect each other, and to weave our stories into a stronger and more empathetic community. Participants gather into small groups and are invited to both share stories about a designated topic and to hold space for each other without comment or discussion. Community Story Circles previously facilitated by Tracy Hudak of CreativityWorks and have been featured as part of the Thomas Fire Remembrance Day in Libbey Park and the Ventura College Multicultural Festival.

The Community Story Circle model comes from the US Department of Arts and Culture (USDAC), a national grassroots network whose mission is “inciting creativity and social imagination to shape a culture of empathy, equity, and belonging” as per their website. This group of “Citizen Artists” use the transformative power of arts and culture to activate this mission through national collaborative actions, local organizing, and knowledge sharing. Annually, the USDAC puts out a call for members to host Community Story Circles and those stories provide the fuel and inspiration for their annual People’s State of the Union.

Tracy Hudak

Tracy Hudak is the founder and principal of CreativityWorks, a think tank and consultancy firm specializing in the creative sector’s role in economic and community development. She serves as program officer for the Westside Community Development Corporation, overseeing the design, implementation, and management of programs such as the Westside Business Network, Va Por La Avenida, and WINNS: Westside Innovative Housing Solutions. Based in Santa Paula, Tracy is also a visual and performing artist who specializes in collaborative processes for creating theatre. As both a consultant and artist, Tracy creates projects and programs that bring people together through activities that spark and build civic imagination.
