May 23, 2018
This 6 week instructed course offers an exploration into the various techniques and methods used to depict the human figure on Thursday evenings from June 21st through July 26th, 2018. There is a class limit of 25 people, to ensure quality instruction and feedback time for participants. Registration ENDS June 7th, 2018. Class time is 6-8 pm. The course will be instructed by the museum’s first Artist in Residence and local artist Ryan Carr.
The classes will be relaxed and friendly and although the course is appropriate for beginners all levels are encouraged to participate. Working with nude life models, each of the 6 sessions will focus on a different subject, for example: quick gestural drawings, chiaroscuro (the study of light and dark tonal values), contour drawing, measured drawing or negative space.
Students will learn how to use different drawing materials, specifically pencil, charcoal, graphite and pastels, how to draw from observation, from a range of short and long model poses and will gain an understanding of the materials used in drawing. Students will also use measuring to improve the proportion of drawings, learn to create effective compositions, and gain anatomical understanding for effective drawing.
The course is open to those ages 16 and up, with a parent signature being required for those ages 16 and 17. The course cost is $145 for Nonmembers, $130 for Members and students with ID and the registration deadline is June 7th.
