Museum Collections
The Museum of Ventura County’s collections of art, artifacts, documents and photographs represent a comprehensive record of life in the region from prehistory to the present. The collections are fully catalogued and are curated by trained Museum staff.
Objects and art from the collection are loaned to other museums, used for research, and used in temporary and long-term exhibits at the Museum.
The Museum's collections include:
- Art works by historical and contemporary artists active in the region, including Jessie Arms and Cornelis Botke, Douglas Shively, Henry Chapman Ford, Beatrice Wood, Vivika and Otto Heino, Horace Bristol and John Nava.
- The George Stuart Collection of Historical Figures®, one-fourth scale figurative sculptures of famous individuals from world history. To find out more click here.
- Baskets and other objects from the local Chumash Indians, as well as artifacts from other Native American cultures outside the county.
- Farm implements used in the extensive agriculture industry in the county.
- Clothing and accessories from the 18th century to the present, and textiles such as quilts and other household linens, flags and banners.
- Furniture and other decorative arts from local families.
- Many other types of objects, including toys, medical equipment, tools, musical instruments, office equipment, and saddles and tack.
